The Transition Council | BanklessDAO Weekly Rollup
Catch Up With What Happened This Week in BanklessDAO
Dear Bankless Nation 🏴,
This will most likely be the last publication with the concept of guest passers being in place. The Transition Council has announced that guest passes will be phased out, marking a shift towards a more committed membership model. This decision aligns with the DAO's new direction, which emphasizes embracing community members who are willing to fully buy into the organization's vision and goals.
Furthermore, as the DAO currently consists of approximately 30 active members, the idea of a constitution has come under scrutiny. While a constitution remains crucial for guiding the course of large organizations, the DAO's current relatively small size raises questions about the necessity of a constitutional review.
To ensure all voices are heard and opinions considered, community members are encouraged to join the weekly governance calls every Monday, 19:00 UTC. These calls provide a platform for members to discuss existing topics of interest and contribute to the decision-making process.
In this week’s editorial, bDAO OG Hirokennelly gives us a TL;DR on the Transition Council. Have a great week ahead! And remember, now is probably the best time to secure your L1 and tlBANK status.

The Transition Council

“You will find that it is necessary to let things go; simply for the reason that they are heavy.”

The Transition Council began as an idea outlined in a Forum post I dropped with the intention to capture a bit of energy and direct it towards moving the DAO forward, whether through reorganization or liquidation. While I can’t say I actually expected the Council to be formed, that’s just what has occurred over the last few weeks, and I’m very happy to be working with a handful of committed DAOists to help the DAO usher in its fourth year.
That’s right, I said fourth year. It’s nearly impossible to believe that the DAO has been around since May 2021. While we often joke that one year in crypto is like ten years elsewhere, that sense of timelessness holds true for those of us who have been members for most of that time.
But the one thing about time, it doesn’t stop, even if it’s hard to measure. With that, here’s the TL;DR on the Transition Council.
Why Transition Council?
The idea for the Transition Council was simple; centralize short-term DAO-wide decision-making in trusted individuals. Why? Because we have been organizationally stuck since getting rugged by HQ in November. For eight months, we have talked about what’s next, but energy dispersion was too great to find a path. By centralizing decision-making, there’s a process for moving forward, for making hard choices, such as removing the Guest Pass.
In many ways, this is the actualization of what I wrote last year regarding consent and consensus, the difference between the two, and what that means for org design. tlBANK holders have decided it’s safe to further centralize decision-making authority during a time of transition. This doesn’t mean it’s the preferred or best option, just that it’s safe to try. Hence the Transition Council.
Transition Council Details
Rather than hold elections, 87% of tlBANK voters showed a preference to appoint rather than elect council members. In line with that vote, the Council was appointed at the Governance meeting two weeks ago.
The Council is made up of six long-term DAO members:
Trewkat
Coffee-crusher
Rowan
0xZFi
WinVerse
Hiro Kennelly
The Council meets on Friday at 7pm UTC in the Amphitheatre. All are welcome to join, although it’s not necessarily a roundtable and more of a public meeting of the Council. We will use the Community Call and Governance Meeting (7pm UTC on Mondays) for real-time feedback, and Forum and tlBANK Snapshot space when we feel it’s necessary.
You will also find our Notion page useful to stay up to date on our thoughts and work. The meeting notes also include a link to the audio recording of the Council Meeting.
