Ideation II: A Fun-Filled Mission? | BanklessDAO Weekly Rollup
Catch Up With What Happened This Week in BanklessDAO
Dear Bankless Nation 🏴,
It's the wrap of another busy week in the community and the ecosystem. Our Community Call took a brief pause as a majority of folks were out at ETHDenver. Content across blockchain technology, decentralization, education, community, and culture is being served with a special spice of fun.
Also, Bankless Academy's workshop on "Finding Your Path in Web3," made it to the #ETHBucharest stage, with the conference to be held later this month. That should be fun as well.
Keeping up the fun, we continue the governance retro discussion in this week's editorial, where we talk about the DAO's mission. Should it be solely functional? Spiced with fun? Or both?
As Haile Selassie said, an awareness of our past is essential to the establishment of our identity. With that said, head on to the Forum, let your thoughts be known, and participate in the retro. The BanklessDAO brand belongs to us and its mission is as important as its identity.
Rest, read, and recharge for the coming week.

Proposals in Discussion
🏛 Governance Department Retro No. 1
Still on this discussion initiated by the Governance Department regarding future actions concerning the DAO. These discussions began with retrospectives focusing on different aspects of the DAO. This post specifically addresses the retrospective concerning the DAO's mission. The proposal is still open for folks to share their thoughts and comments on the Forum.
Ideation II: A Fun-Filled Mission?
Author: Lucent1
Last week, the Governance Department started the retro to assess governance, funding, organizational units, constitution, vibes, mission, and operations. The first retro gave the community a significant headstart as we discussed the things to do away with, things to implement, and things to keep supporting. Now, it is important to know the heartbeat of the community regarding what to do as a DAO, why we are here, and most importantly, what the excitement is in being a DAO.
The second retro discussed the DAO's mission to help discern the spirit and vibe in the community. We can take a glance at what's going through contributors' minds.
The above is our mission as a DAO. However, from the retro, we know the wording needs to change. We cannot provide all the ways and trying to do so might be one of the reasons we are in the mess we find ourselves in.
What Then Should We Be?
A good number of members want the community to be purely a 'Social DAO.' DAOing for fun. We should become a community that offers pathways to web3 with a mission that appeals to contributors. Intentionality, focus, uniqueness, and a well-planned path to achieving our mission should be key ingredients. Also, we should start thinking about the shortest mission statement possible and break our mission into operational parts. This way, we can still help people get onboarded into web3, guide communities in using web3 tooling, and advise on best practices.
A Feasible Mission?
In the above image, we see that notes with 'fun' or 'hang out' appear several times in the high feasibility, high motivation section. There also seems to be interest in encouraging contributors to build a career in web3 as well as experimenting with fun ideas on governance and tokenomics. When DAOing becomes fun, education, culture, and media aspects will take on new shapes.
The vibe so far from the community is a fun-filled mission, and the greatest sentiment in the camp is that all these can be done as a DAO independent of HQ. With the high motivation and feasibility of the community in these areas, such a mission is not an easy one to overlook.
Although the spirits in the camp are those of optimism and support, what do you think our mission should be? A fun-filled one? Or a paying one? Should we continue with the old mission? Whatever you think, head on to the Forum and make your thoughts known. Also, join in for the next retro by 19:00 UTC on Monday, March 4, 2024.
